View box

I recently bought a le pashe trinitage paper but I had a different project in mind for it.

I created layers from the trinitage and put them in a view box placing each image slightly higher than the previous one. I also added card to the base of each layer so that the bottom edges were level.

I made up the inside sections of the card before I made up the box part as this made the construction easier.

Notelets

Although I've had them for ages now I still use (and love) fairy doodles stamps.

I decided to use them to create notelets for a friend. They were all 12cms square and I put an insert in each one for the message. I coloured them all  in pencil crayons for a soft effect. Then I made a box to put them in with a belly band to keep them together.

Mothers day 2021

It's an early mothers day this year and that is the inspiration for these 2 cards. I've put the greetings

inside as there was no room at the front when I'd finished them!

I think that although they are fairly traditional they are also really sweet!

Beads

Sometimes you want to make something different from your paper stash. I'd always wanted to have a go at beads!

I drew some very long triangles onto my paper and cut them out. Then I rolled them from the thick to the thin end over a cocktail stick. I glued the end to the bead. I made several in the same way then threaded them onto some fishing thread. Then I dipped them into some Modge Podge glue ( 2 parts water to 1 part glue)and let them dry. I repeated this until the beads were "varnished" Then I threaded them onto more fishing thread with a glass bead in between each one to make a necklace.

I've made a few of these now and friends have have loved them!

Arrow shaped card

I wanted to make a different shaped card that wasnt too complicated.

I folded my card blank then found the centre of the open side. I measured 3cm in from the same edge top and bottom then joined these mark's to the one at the side to create a sort of arrow shape.  I cut it out  and decorated the front of the card with 3 decoupage.

It's more effective than I thought it would be and I'm pleased with the finished result!

Recess in disguise

Recess cards have been going for years but it's nice  to use them differently nowadays.

I still cut the recess into the card but when I decoupage it I let the design run over the edge. You have to double the 3d pads in places so that the design is level but they can still be hidden in the usual way.

I think it's quite effective and the finished card is more unusual.

Floating image cards

I wanted to make some cards with a floating image in the front. This is the result!

These cards are quite easy and ideal if you only have 1 image to play with. I'll definately do more in future.

Biscornu

I've done lots of cross stitching on my life but a lot of it became pictures. So, I learned how to put it evenly onto clothing and linens and occasionally made gifts from it too!

One of the things I'd always wanted to try was to make a biscornu. It's a sort of pin cushion held together in the middle with a button. There are a few tutorials on the net if you wanted to have a go.

It was nice to make something different and I can cross it off my to "do list" at last!

Shop till you drop!

Heres another decoupage design from the "Flippin Families range by La Pashe.

I love these characters and they always make a decent sized card.  It's just right for the shop till you drop fan!

Rocker card

Now and again it's nice to make a card with a different shape to it and it's even better when it's one that rocks!

I cut a circle of black card and folded it in half. Then I made the decoupage up onto a white scalloped circle and stuck it to the bottom half of the black card. I added 3 gems to the left to balance it all up.

Although rocker cards are quite straight forward balancing the design is essential if you want it to sit straight. If it just wont do that cut a little off the bottom so that it stands as a card usually would.

Crochet card

Jen, a friend of mine,  is very keen on crochet and makes beautiful amigurami toys!

I wanted to use crochet on the card I made for her so I punched holes all around my topper and used embroidery cotton to work

around the edge.  I like a bit of crochet for a change but as I couldn't bend the card to work the edge I found it very fiddly!

I probably wouldnt do another one but I was happy with the finished effect. The butterfly was from a craft creations paper. I decoupaged it on to the card after the crochet was completed.

Cross stitch

During the last lockdown a friend of mine gave me some cross stitch patterns. I used to do a lot of stitching years ago but hadn't done any for quite a while. It made a nice change to do these and of course helped to pass the time!

I used my own cottons so the colour choice is my own. I've put them away for the time being until I decide what I want to do with them.

One for Ben!

It was my son in laws birthday recently and as hes always on the go I thought this leap frog card would be ideal!

The papers are from La Pashe and there are quite a few different "Flippin Gnomes" to choose from.

Add a bit of cross stitch!

Now and I think its nice to mix the media I'm using into a different card so with that in mind I made this one for a friend of mine. Shes a really keen knitters so It was just right for her!

The cross stitch pattern came from some framecraft cards I've had for years.Im not sure if you can still get them nowadays. I like doing  bit of cross stitch now and again and it was good to use this design on a card.

Someone gave me some bigger cross stitch patterns recently and I've done a few of them too ( they've been ideal to do while we're in lockdown!) I'll put some of them on here later.

Year of the ox

Today is Chinese New Year 2021...the year of the Ox, so it was a good time to craft with the little ones.

We downloaded some stuff from the internet and made a lantern, a card and a bookmark. It made a nice change and also taught us a bit about Chinese celebrations. I even made them some red envelopes with a little money in which went down well!

Solstice

Last christmas I was asked to make a card for the winter solstice -  not something I've  ever done before.

I cut a circular aperture into the top of a 5 x 7 inch card then die cut a snowflake from white card. (This is a tonic die)  I stuck the die onto the edge of the aperture and glittered it.

I stamped the image of a fairy in black and cut it out. I coloured the wings in yellow then  I applied this image over the snowflake. I added a greeting using peel offs.

I must admit, I was quite pleased with the finished result which I think was simple but effective! It's nice to do something different for a change dont you think?

Triptic irises

Nowadays many people prefer flatter cards and with that in mind I created this one. .

I simply cut my picture into several sections and mounted them onto a dark card. I took a square card blank and stuck a piece of paper (complimentary to the flowers) on the right hand side. I added a dark strip of card across the centre and adhered the flower picture on top using 3d pads. I added peel offs and gems as shown. I also added a die cut butterfly to the left of the flowers.

All in all it ended up better than expected!

Baby love

I dont make many baby cards nowadays so when my daughter had a little girl in August last year I couldn't resist!

This card is as much of a gift as a card. I found the pattern on the net. (It could easily be made in shades of blue for a boy of course) I put it in a box (as it doesnt lie flat) like the outer layer of an exploding box. It went together easily and I really enjoyed making something so different.

Add some colour!

I love to make cards using black and white backgrounds then add a really colourful picture. They compliment each other so well. I think these 2 cards prove the point. The one on the right has a paper I found in my stash and the one on the left is from craft creations. Hope you like them too!

Lets hear it for the girls!

My first love has always been decoupage and here are a couple of cards made from a step by step paper. There are lots of tutorials on the net if you fancy learning how to do it. I made mine using 3d pads.

A little flutter

Butterflies are my most favourite creatures. So beautiful and delicate!

I wanted to show that the same delicacy could be portrayed  with just one colour. So I stamped a brown butterfly onto card using distress ink. Then I took a wet brush and dragged the colour into the image.

The background was created by cutting circles into scrap card and inking through them with the same colour of distress ink used for the butterfly.

Although it's hard to see in a photo, some of the wings have been glittered in gold.

I really love this card and it will be a welcome addition to my collection!

New wave

Hello...im waving to you. Sitting in my box like many others while we wait for the pandemic to pass!

For those of you in a similar position I'm going to share some of the projects I've been involved with for the past year. Hope theyll bring you some inspiration as you try to balance a great deal of time with not much to do.

This is something I made for a friend recently. It's a mandala from a colouring book which I used for paper piecing afterwards. I think it's really effective as you can see right through it!
