2 rose cards

I've been saving some papers with rose's on them for some time and I thought it was about time I turned them into cards.

I removed the background from the first design  and glued it to a die cut circle. I added faux stitching to the edge.  I attatched a square of the patterned papers to a white card blank and added faux stitching to the edges. I applied peel off corners then cut a strip of  paper in a complimentary colour and stuck it to the centre of the card. The decoupage topper was stuck to a deckle edged circle then added to the middle on double sided pads.
Finally I stuck a small white butterfly to the top left if the topper and a few peel off dots to complete.

The second card was made using the darker papers.

This design was of rose buds in a frame. I took a 5" x 7" card blank, measured 5cm from the fold and removed the excess. I cut a 3cm strip from the cut off piece. Then I cut a strip of acetate that would fit between the 2 sections. This was stuck at the back at the edge of each strip with double sided tape. I covered both pieces with patterned paper cut so that there was a small edge of card showing all around.

I added peel offs to the inner edge sections. I made up the decoupage then stuck it onto the card where it overlapped the pattern paper. (Only) I tied a pink bow and stuck it to the top of the picture frame.

The peel off greeting was applied to the acetate as shown.

Another get well

Unfortunately another friend was off colour recently so I cross stitched a card this time.

The picture was taken at night and there wasnt chance to take another ( that's the reason for the cell phone silhouette) but at least it gives the chance to see the picture!

I stuck the square topper  onto a 5"x7" card so that the upper edge stands out slightly. It just makes a change!

Get well soon

A friend of mine had a fall recently and I wanted to let her know that people were thinking of her.

I used a craft creations paper to create this get well card. I think these papers are such good value for money and always of a high quality. It's a pity to see them disappearing from the market!

Blackwork bookmark

Just to prove that all blackwork isnt made with black thread I made this bookmark for myself.

Really enjoyed it as I find stitching relaxing especially when its a repeat pattern like this one.

Boxed concertina card

Sometimes when I only have small stamps I find it hard t know what to do with them. So this card seemed an ideal answer!

I took a long strip of card and divided it into 6 equal pieces. Then I zig zag folded it. I created toppers for each section and stamped an image or text on each one. I applied them the card and then refolded it so that I could create a box for it to fit into. I stuck the first section into the lid and the last into the base then I decorated the front of the box.

Although itll take up quite a space on the mantelpiece itll be a conversation piece too!

Suspended in an apperture

I've used this paper a few times before so I was looking for a new way to do it.

I decided to cut an apperture into a card and stick a piece of acetate vertically into the centre. I then applied the decoupage to the middle so that it appeared  to fly! I put an embossed Matt of pink card over the whole apperture to hide the edges of the acetate. Then I made a grass strip and applied it to the inside of the card below the image.

Finally I added the greeting and a few peel offs to complete the card. I love the shadows it creates!

Over an apperture

For this example I took a d. l. Card and cut an apperture into the centre. I cut strips of card and stuck them at an angle both ways  (overlapping the edges slightly). Then I added a white mount (with the same sized apperture in the middle) over the top. This was to hide the edges of the strips and to ensure there were no raw edges on the inside of the card.

I put a peel off strip around the inner edges then die cut 3 morning glory images (plus leaves) and arranged them down the card front.

Shadow box

I sent for these stamps from the wish web site. I love all sorts of toadstools so I really enjoyed creating this view box!

I tried to match the backing paper with the colours on the toadstools. Pulling the sides in and out creates the shadows.

2 funky fellas

I copied the design for these cards from something I saw on the net. I made my own pattern. I just love the cheeky faces!

If you created  a wider spine at the top you could put a small memo pad and pencil inside to turn the card into a gift!

Multi layers

For this card I designed a basic cat shape and cut it out several times in different colours of papers. It was obviously for a cat lover!

The second card is invertage. There were 5 layers so I stuck sets of 2 together so it didnt stand out too much. I glittered the edges of the pairs of cards so  that they were still defined. Then the invertage was mounted onto a deckle edged card and attached to a 15cm x 15cm card blank.

Card for the lady in the lab.

I've made cards for Sarah before and wanted something different this time.

I took a piece of white card and dropped ink onto it. I swirled it around and added mica pigment here and there until I had a blob of colour. I cut it into an irregular shape and stuck it onto a card with a circular apperture. I added an outer ring in silver and hoped it all looked like something in a petri dish.

The rest of the decorations including the greeting were made using peel offs. (Thank goodness for them!)

Acetate card

Here is an acetate card made for my daughter Helen when she was 30.

The pattern was die cut from  different colours and applied to the card with p.v.a. glue. The peel off greeting was put onto a piece of white card and stuck inside the acetate. A similar sized piece was stuck behind it so that the card could be signed.

A bit of stitching

I love autumn! The coloured leaves and the seed heads and everything! I particularly like the structure of dandelions ( not so much the flower itself!)

So, I designed these 2 cards with that in mind. One is a small version of the other and either could be a snowflake if different colours were used. I added beeds to the larger design to make it more tactile. Theres just 1 gem in the centre of the smaller flowers and I added french knots here and there.

Foil

I wanted to make a couple of cards using peel offs.

I stuck the bird image onto acetate then coloured them at the back using permanent markers. I turned the image back so that the risen edges of the peel offs were at the front of the card. I cut an aperture into a square of coloured card and stuck the acetate (with bird ) into it . I took a piece of foiled paper onto the card blank so that it would show through the acetate image.  I mounted it onto a white decklesd square then onto my card blank. Finally I added peel offs to each corner.

Paper piecing

Sometimes I make shaped cards using paper piecing and sometimes.es I replace pieces removed when die cutting.

Here are some examples...

A teapot card.

A design taken from a patchwork pattern.

A die cut owl ( x 3) with the pieces removed during cutting replaced.

A layered paper pieced butterfly (my own pattern.)

Knitting and crochet

Every year there are fairs and festivals up and down the county. One of these is an arts festival at Belper when the trees in the wood are decorated with knitted animals.

These are some of the animals I've made to put in the trees. It should be a bit of fun!

I also wanted to enter something I made into a school fair. Its a cushion cover worked in corner to corner crochet. The pattern is taken from a cross stitch design. Corner to corner crochet is like working a cross stitch pattern from corner to corner. I  once made a cot blanket in it. It took ages and was big enough for a single bed!

This is it...

It was for my youngest grandson. Wont be in a rush to make another though!

A woven card

I took the pattern for this card from a cross stitch design.

I cut the front into strips and left a boarder all the way around. Then I wove 3mm widths of paper over the strips

 until the design was completed.

It's quite a fiddly process especially when your weaving in the final pieces. I attached the completed design behind a square aperture with a deckled edge then mounted them both onto a blue card blank.

Easter 2021

Here are the rabbit cards made for my grandchildren this easter!

3 girls and 2 boys! Theyll go well with the Easter eggs!
